A 2023 Good Food Award winner, these tasty Nonpareil almonds are grown in California s San Joaquin Valley, then slow roasted in small batches using organic pure maple syrup from a family owned orchard in Vermont, rosemary, sea salt, and California extra virgin olive oil. Delectably crunchy, salty, sweet, and rosemary infused – we must say, they re hard to stop eating!Â
California produces over 2.5 billion pounds of almonds a year – 80% of the world s almonds and 100% of the United States commercial supply. Although almonds are not native to California, the hot, dry Mediterranean-like climate of the San Joaquin Valley creates favorable conditions for cultivation. The first crops in the 1850 s were of European varieties that were not acclimated to the weather conditions and yielded poor crops. Production has steadily increased since the 1880 s when new varieties that were more adapted to local climate conditions were introduced, like the Nonpareil, and as growers learned about the need for cross-pollination and water irrigation systems.
Today, Nonpareil is still the dominant variety!Â
